Existing graduate student spaces at York are becoming more and more scarce as university administrations reassign these spaces. We recognize the need for graduate student space for studying, counselling, socials, and student-run organizations. Teaching assistants and research assistants are often given small offices to share, or they aren’t assigned spaces at all.
In the 2017-18 the new graduate and faculty lounge will open but we need more spaces for graduate students. We’ve started to address this issue by asking the Faculty of Graduate Students to contact academic departments and see which office spaces are vacant or occupied, and where we can make more space for students.
At the present time, for studying spaces, Scott Library offers a Graduate Reading Room and YUGSA offers space in the Over-Grad Café located in Ross South 167 (both spaces are password-protected and for graduate students only).
