Following the announcement that the provincial government has cancelled all public schools across the province until April 5, the YUGSA Executive Committee has moved to indefinitely close our office as of Monday, March 16.
The province’s announcement comes in the wake of the World Health Organization decision to classify the Coronavirus, COVID-19, as a pandemic. Our decision to close our office is informed by our care for the YUGSA staff and the broader student population who could be affected by remaining open. This also means that our March 19 Council meeting is cancelled and all space bookings are indefinitely postponed until we reopen the office.
We are proactively working to protect one another and we remain committed to our membership through our office’s services, advocacy, and campaigns. Please do not hesitate to e-mail general inquiries to info@yugsa.ca, and any health plan related questions to health@yugsa.ca.
Members are encouraged to visit our website as many of our services are also available online.
In light of this closure, the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) of the 2020-2021 YUGSA Elections has decided to host the All-Candidates’ Meeting, scheduled for Friday March 13 at 4:00pm online (please contact cro@yugsa.ca for instructions how to join the meeting). Further, any nomination packages that prospective candidates have not yet dropped off to the office can be submitted via email to the CRO at cro@yugsa.ca.
The YUGSA Executive recognizes the need to employ mutual aid, develop community care, and continue building our movements to protect our collective future. We encourage our membership to utilize the resources below, taken from a collaborative response to the outbreak of COVID-19. These resources advocate for collective responses to this outbreak and centralize our desire to support each one another and not risk unnecessary damage to our communities.
Organizing and Activism
Sincerely,
The YUGSA Executive Committee
